HUMANITARIAN VISIT TO BULU BLIND CENTER
In an effort to thank God for His abundant blessings clearly visible through our successes, the UB Choir made three separate thanks given ceremonies;
-St Peter and Paul’s Parish Molyko
-Ebenezer Baptist Church, Great Soppo
-Presbyterian Church Molyko
In addition to these thanks giving ceremonies, a humanitarian visit was made to the Rehabilitation Institute for the Blind (RIB) called the Bulu Blind Center on Saturday the 27th of November 2009.
We arrived the center at about 3:15 PM with the program starting some 15 minutes later. The MC disclosed the program which began with prayer by one of the trainers who is also blind.
There after we were welcomed by a song performed by the blind. The piano, drums as well as the shakers were all played by blind.
After an opening speech by President Jaff Mary, we presented some gifts to the members of the center, amongst which were;
-A bag of rice,
-A packet of toilet rolls,
-Detergents and lots more.
These gifts were highly appreciated and received by the Senior Prefect as indicated in her brief and interesting speech.
Our Evangelism Secretary Barake Nyingise gave a reflection on the topic “A Blind Man With a Vision”. Reflection ended with a word of prayer by Ashu Caleb.
After that we had more animation from the trainers of the RIB led by Agatha. The first song of her medley was “Je suis dans la joie”
The UB Choir was given an opportunity to sing and Avuleki was sung followed by Dieu tout puissant and Oh Christmas card. The three songs conducted by Vana Monique were closely followed by pianist and drum players as though they rehearsed with us, hard to believe they are actually blind.
The “orchestra” took the lead once more for some round up songs. Agatha started with “We are together, we are one” and “Louer Jesus, Amen” etc. We could not keep to our seats, but danced to their tunes.
We rounded up and Agatha was the star of the day as seen in the pictures taken. We stayed a little while with them to ask questions, know their stories and plans. Some of their experiences are quite sad.
In the mean time our experiences with them and other blind people we know was shared. A good number of them got blind while growing up under very unfortunate circumstances. Others have made the center their new home after facing rejection by friends and family.
We departed for Molyko at 4:30 PM
May the Good God who gave you eyes to read this article help you remember the disabled people (Blind, lame, deaf, dumb) in your prayers. Believe me they need prayers.
Amen.
